36th ANNUAL FANA ASSEMBLAGE

ASSEMBLAGE SCHEDULE
What are we going to be doing in San Diego for five days?
The FANA Board of Directors will be coming on Monday, April 23, two days before the Assemblage, to attend a FANA Workshop put on by Sarah Sandford-Miller. She will be in touch with them.
Wednesday, April 25, is Arrival and Check-in Day. After you check into the Hotel, go to the second floor to our Hospitality Room called University Heights Room to get your Assemblage packet. Rest of the day is on your own.
Thursday, April 26, is the Travel Day and Welcome Reception. We will be visiting Old Town, an historic area of early San Diego settlement. We will have an Included lunch in Old Town. Then on to Balboa Park to the History Museum to see their Fan Collection. Back to the hotel and the evening Welcome Reception. There will be an exhibit of Members’ Funny Fans. Please bring funny fans or unusual fans that make you laugh. Abbey Cash will give a talk about Funny Fans. Hospitality Room is open.
Friday, April 27, is Lecture Day.
Six lecturers will be speaking on various subjects that they want to share with you. We will learn about silhouette fans, new fans, eBay, chinoiserie, and fans NOT to buy. And if time permits, how to date Vernis Martin style fans. Patrons’ lunch, everyone else lunch on your own.
Afternoon Fan Sale. Please contact Katherine Lukas to reserve tables. Table is $25.00. After the fan sale there will be a Members’ Fan Exhibition. Please bring fans you want to show off to your fellow fan collectors. Whatever you want. There is no theme. Just beautiful! The evening and dinner is on own. Hospitality Room is open.
Saturday, April 28, is FANA Day.
Morning is the General Meeting. Lunch is on your own.
Afternoon is the Fan Auction. Please bring GOOD fans to donate to the FANA Auction. Please, don’t bring damaged fans or junk fans or miscellaneous stuff that has to be bundled and nobody really wants. Give that stuff to your friends.
Evening is the Banquet. No theme. Bring any fan that matches your outfit or you just like.
Sunday, April 29, is Going Home Day. Adios.
Farewell breakfast in the morning. Board Meeting is at 9:00.
REGISTRATION DETAILS
Bienvenido! You are invited to come to San Diego to attend this year’s FANA Assemblage in San Diego, CA. We will be staying at the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Hotel. The address is: 901 Camino Del Rio South, San Diego California, 92108.
Transportation from the Airport
You can use Uber, Taxi or Super Shuttle. Super Shuttle is the cheapest and as easy as the other two options. Super Shuttles are big blue vans with yellow lettering, located on the street outside the exit doors of the Airport. Get reservations online at www.supershuttle.com. If you prepay, the cost is $12.60 per person. You can get a AAA discount on-line only. Or you can phone: (619) 564-7922. Otherwise, the cost is $17.00 per person if you pay on the street when you arrive. Ask about round-trip fare to the Hilton Mission Valley.
For Reservations, call Julie Kuhn at (619) 767-5569 and mention you are with the FANA Organization. Ask for Standard Room or Superior Room. Descriptions of the rooms are below. Choice is yours. The cut-off date for hotel room reservations at the FANA rate is March 26, 2018. Cancellation of your reservation is 48 hours before your arrival, otherwise there will be a fee.
Standard Room rate is total, $156.65 per night.
Superior Room rate is total, $179.19 per night.
Both rooms have twin or king size beds. The Standard Room can accommodate a third person with a couch.
Or if you want a Superior Room with a third person, tell them at the Check-in Desk on arrival. They will give you the Standard Room and charge you the Superior Room price that includes the Buffet breakfast. Same Room Rates extend from April 20 to May 2.
Here are the differences…
Standard Room, Breakfast is on your own. Breakfast Buffet is $15.00 per person.
Superior Room, Breakfast Buffet is included for all occupants in the room. (You save $7.00 for 2 people.)
Or if you don’t want a big breakfast, there is an a la carte menu in the dining room, or you can call Room Service, or you can go to the small Market store next to Check-In where you can buy yogurt and a fruit, etc. They also sell beer, wine, soft drinks, water, snacks, and sundries.
Next door to the hotel is a “Home Cooking Café” and about a block down the street is a Denny’s.
Each room has a work desk, a data port hook-up, high speed internet access, and two phone lines, voice mail, MP3 compatible clock radio, in-room coffee maker, lighted vanity mirror, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, individual climate control, color TV with web access, pay-per-view movies, Play Station, and free HBO. If you like to have a light on in the bathroom all night, bring your own night light to plug in. The lights in the bathroom are on a sensor that turns the lights off after ten minutes.
FANA Hospitality Room is located in a room called “University Heights” on the second floor. After you check in to the hotel, come to the Hospitality Room to check in and receive your Welcome Packet. All our meeting rooms and dining rooms are on the second floor. We have the entire second floor for FANA.
There’s a Fitness Center, (small) outdoor heated swimming pool, complimentary Business Center, Starbucks. Parking is $12 a day and Valet service is $26.
The hotel is located across a freeway from a huge Shopping Mall with over 250 shops, major stores, and restaurants. It’s a ten-minute walk over an overpass, or a $5.00 cab ride. (You’ll have free time!)
